Artist Training Berlin – Course Program 2024
FINE ARTS 10 to 27 September 2024 “Navigating our everyday art practices” by Dina Khouri & Salwa Aleryani
This course is a gathering for sharing our practices and providing a space for learning-by-doing through group sessions and one-on-one mentoring. As a group we will engage in discussions, excursions, and resource sharing that will be adapted to the participating artists’ needs and foster collective growth while nurturing our individual art practice paths. Participants will be encouraged to share their lived experiences and knowledge with others, talk about collective issues, and build connections and opportunities with one another. Together, we will rethink our artistic tools and strategies and how to better use them to meet every day professional challenges. Community is key to maintaining an art practice, this workshop will explore ways to build a professional and peer community in Berlin. Within the framework of the workshop we will create space for collaboration and mutual support, as well as extend participants’ reach to diverse art spaces and communities in the city. Topics covered include: artist programs in Berlin, Office of art in public space, facilities with workshops and material resources. Excursions will focus on exhibitions and events that contribute and respond to our practices.

Dina Khouri (Jordan/USA) is an artist who works with pieces of paint on diffracted surfaces. Her paintings investigate images of landscape through an interactive and relational perspective. She has exhibited at the Neue Berliner Kunstverein (2024), Galerie im Turm (2023), Klosterruine Berlin (2021), Martin-Gropius-Bau (2020), Lagos Biennial (2019), Wiesbaden Biennale (2018) and the Sharjah Biennial (2017). Khouri is a graduate of Temple University in Philadelphia and Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin and was a participant of the Berlin Program for Artists (2019/20). Salwa Aleryani (b. Sana'a, Yemen) is an artist who works primarily with found and made objects. Her work often engages with sites and infrastructures, their national histories, remnants, and the promises and resilience they hold. Aleryani's work has taken shape in a variety of educational, exhibition, and site-specific contexts, including Berlin, Vienna, New York, Beirut, and Amman, among others. She has been an intermittent guest lecturer at the Studium Generale UdK since 2021 and a mentor at the *foundationClass KHB since 2023. In 2024, she was awarded the Villa Aurora Grant in Los Angeles. www.salwaaleryani.com

Since 2016 the Artist Training provides 51 modules containing information and contacts for about 800 artists in exile and creatives from the following fields: music, culture and media, fine arts, performing arts, and film. Networking events facilitate connections within the respective artistic sectors, while consulting activities examine in depth individual situations.

The Counselling Centre Artist Training Berlin offers initial counselling and further placement for all artistic-creative areas and is located at the Berlin Career College of the Berlin University of the Arts.
